Sonam Wangchuk Discharged from Hospital After Weeks of Fasting

After hospital discharge, Wangchuk was on Monday discharged from a hospital in Delhi where he had been undergoing treatment for several weeks after his long fast at Jantar Mantar. 

In the online update, he said doctors had advised a gradual return to a normal diet and rest. Each day I am improving. “I’ve started to eat again slowly, and I feel so much better,” he said. 

He was on a fast as part of the campaign for constitutional safeguards and assurances for the statehood of Ladakh.

Makes plans for tribute before going back
Wangchuk said he would go to Rajghat in New Delhi to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi before leaving for Ladakh. 

“It’s symbolic for me. “I had gone there before starting the fast at Jantar Mantar, and I want to go there again before going home,” he said. 

The visit was a reaffirmation of his commitment to peaceful protest and dialogue, he said. Thanks to our supporters across the nation.  
Wangchuk thanked people across India who supported the campaign. Students, teachers, youth groups and citizens from different backgrounds came together to raise their voice, he said.

"The movement grew because people stood up. The letters, prayers and support gave them strength, the message said.

Now, it’s about recovery  
Wangchuk said he would take time to recover fully before returning to public duties as his health stabilises. “Work will go on but in a peaceful and measured way,” he told reporters.

Doctors told him to hold off on strenuous activity for the moment. Fans appreciated the update on his health and wished him well in his recovery.

The campaign he led brought the demands of Ladakh to the national map, and Wangchuk says he plans to keep the conversation alive through dialogue and community efforts when he gets back home.
