Slum Area Opposite Shah Rukh Khan’s Mannat Draws Attention Online

The clip, shot in Bandra, highlights the fact that some of the city’s most expensive homes are located just across the road from densely populated neighbourhoods.

The area across Mannat turns into a talking point
The viral video on social media shows the stretch outside Mannat in Bandra where a settlement of small homes covered with blue tarpaulins and tin sheets can be seen. The footage shows narrow lanes, daily life, and residents going about their lives.

For many viewers, it was the first time they saw what is directly opposite the actor’s sea-facing bungalow, one of the most photographed celebrity landmarks in Mumbai. But the video went viral thanks to the juxtaposition of the humble housing with the swanky address nearby. Mumbai's contrast is back in focus. Mumbai has always been famous for its side-by-side extremes. Bandra is a perfect example of how luxury apartments, heritage buildings, and informal settlements can be minutes away from each other.

The video has ignited discussion about that reality. Some users were surprised to find the settlement so close to Mannat. Others said it was a familiar part of the urban fabric of Mumbai, where economic diversity is on display on the same street.

It’s not a new conversation
The city’s housing landscape has been debated for years, with activists and urban planners often citing the need for better infrastructure, sanitation and redevelopment of older and informal areas. No connection Shah Rukh Khan has with the settlement*
The video is about Shah Rukh Khan and shows an image of the actor, but makes no mention of any connection between him and the settlement. The focus is only on the geography of Mannat’s surroundings.

There has been no word from either Shah Rukh Khan or his team on the clip. The actor still lives at Mannat, which is still one of the most visited places in Mumbai, with fans thronging outside every day hoping to catch a glimpse.

The conversation continues on social media
Reactions online have been divided. While some described the video as a “reminder of Mumbai’s reality", others used it to underscore the city’s long-standing housing problems.

Many users also defended the settlement, saying it represents the livelihoods of thousands who work in and around Bandra and keep the neighbourhood afloat.”

The video continues to be shared, moving from a celebrity address to a broader conversation about life in India’s financial capital, where luxury high-rises and modest homes share the same skyline.
