PM Modi's Strong Message on the Indian Ocean: "Partnership, Not Power"

On Sunday, June 28, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India wants the Indian Ocean to be safe, peaceful, and successful.
He said safety at sea and economic growth should go together. PM Modi added that countries should work with trust and respect, not based on how big or powerful they are.

PM Modi said India wants the Indian Ocean to be a place where every country can enjoy safety and better economic growth. He said all nations should get equal respect and work together for a better future.
Our vision is to make the Indian Ocean an Ocean of Opportunity," PM Modi said while speaking with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie during his three-day state visit to the island nation.

He also said India is working with countries in the region to improve trade, support development, keep the sea safe, and maintain peace. He added that the Indian Ocean should be a place where all countries can grow together.

The Seychelles President acknowledged India’s support in strengthening the country’s maritime capabilities through surveillance, hydrography, and defence capacity building, particularly through the refit of PS Zoroaster and the gifting of the fast attack vessel PS Lespwar a day earlier to the Seychelles Coast Guard.

The Prime Minister's message shows India's effort to build strong ties with other countries in the region. India wants to work together for peace, safe sea routes, economic growth, and a better future for everyone in the Indian Ocean.
