Indian-Origin Billionaire Vinod Khosla Set to Buy Seattle Seahawks in $9.6 Billion Deal

The deal, which is said to be worth around $9.6 billion, or ₹82,500 crore, is now awaiting approval from the NFL. A Sale that Breaks Records

The Seahawks will be sold to Khosla and his family. If approved, it would be the most expensive NFL team sale in league history, eclipsing the previous record.

Under NFL rules, the league's owners must approve the transfer of ownership by a majority vote to make it official.

Who Is Vinod Khosla
Silicon Valley veteran Vinod Khosla was born in India. In 1982, he co-founded Sun Microsystems, a company that helped define the modern computer industry.

He later founded Khosla Ventures, one of the world's most influential venture capital firms. The firm has invested in several major tech startups in the areas of AI, clean energy, and healthcare.

This would be Khosla’s first major foray into owning a professional sports team.

What Happens Next Before Closing the Deal?
Both sides have agreed in principle, but a few steps are still to be taken. The sale requires approval from the NFL finance committee and team owners.

Reports also say the Khosla family will have to sell its minority stake in another NFL franchise to meet league ownership rules before taking full control of the Seahawks.

Indian-Origin Leaders Achieve Major Milestone In Global Sports
The proposed acquisition has garnered attention in business and sports circles. Many in the Indian-origin business community have described it as a milestone moment, with one of their own set to own a marquee team in the NFL.

It also mirrors a broader trend of global business leaders investing heavily in major sports franchises. Now Seahawks fans are wondering what a new ownership group means for the future of the franchise.

If it is approved, the deal will put Khosla in charge of one of the NFL’s most popular franchises and open a new chapter for the team and for Indian representation at the highest level of American sports.
