Indian Idol Season 16 curtains have officially dropped, and the trophy is heading east. Bhubaneswar's Jyotirmayee Nayak, 24, out-sang a powerhouse field of competitors to win the crown and write her name in the history books as the very first contestant from Odisha to win the entire competition.

As confetti rained down on the stage, the newly crowned winner picked up the hefty winner’s cheque of twenty lakh rupees and the massive trophy. The runner-up was Tanishk Shukla of Jabalpur, who was standing right next to her on the podium after grinding out stellar performances week after week. The grand finale was filled with talent with intense showdowns from finalists like Anshika Chonkar, Manraj Veer Singh, Myscmme Bosu and Suhail Sufi.

The final night was more like a huge music festival than a tense competition. Sitting at the judges’ desk, Shreya Ghoshal and Badshah watched with pride as the next generation of vocalists took centre stage.

The evening had an air of significance as legendary icons came on stage to share the limelight with the finalists. The finale turned into an unforgettable celebration of Indian music with voices like Udit Narayan, Kumar Sanu, Papon, Usha Uthup and silver-screen star Urmila Matondkar. All the finalists brought their A game, and the panel and audience were spellbound as the hours ticked down to the final vote tally.

From hospital rooms to Bollywood dreams, what makes Jyotirmayee’s win so moving isn’t just her powerhouse vocal range but the extraordinary journey she took to get there.
