A Rocky Start Becomes a Total Masterclass

Wow, what a statement win. There were actually some tense moments for India in the beginning as Pakistan skipper Abu Bakar Mahmood slammed a penalty corner into the back of the net in the 13th minute. But that early wake-up call was exactly what the Indian side needed. By the second quarter, they had flipped the script, shutting down the midfield and moving the ball with the kind of crisp, effortless passing that took all the wind out of Pakistan’s sails.

Changing the story before half

The comeback started in the 20th minute when Sukhjeet Singh smartly deflected a rocket of a shot by Harmanpreet Singh to make things level. Once they got the momentum, India never looked back. But just six minutes later it was Harmanpreet who decided to call his own number, smashing a penalty corner directly past the keeper to send India into the halftime break with a 2-1 lead and all the confidence in the world.

An Avalanche in the Second Half

If the first half was a battle for supremacy, the second half was an offensive masterpiece. India came out of the break absolutely relentless. Hardik Singh calmly converted a penalty stroke in the 34th minute, and then Jugraj Singh finished off a swift counter-attack to make it 4-1. From there, Pakistan’s defences fell apart. Abhishek found the net in the 41st minute before Raj Kumar Pal made it a staggering 6-1 with a rebound just three minutes later.

SLAM THE DOOR SHUT

Dilpreet Singh put the exclamation point on the night by drilling in India’s seventh and final goal in the 54th minute. Pakistan tried to salvage some pride late in the game with a few consecutive penalty corners, but India’s backline refused to budge. Hardik Singh was Player of the Match, and rightly so – he was the best player on the pitch, taking a close-fought rivalry match and turning it into an absolute blowout.
