Gujarat Woman Sentenced to 10 Years for Acid Attack After Relationship Ended

Ahmedabad: A sessions court in Ahmedabad sentenced a 42-year-old woman to 10 years’ imprisonment for throwing acid on a man who refused to continue the relationship with her. The incident occurred in the city’s Juhapura area, and the victim has suffered serious burn injuries.

This is a case where the judiciary is taking a strong stand against acid attacks. Those responsible would face tough legal action, authorities said, adding: “Violence is never justified, whether it is over personal differences or failed relationships.” 

Acid attacks leave many victims with permanent scars and mental trauma. The verdict comes under pressure from courts and rights groups for faster trials, tougher sentences, and more treatment and justice for victims.

The incident has also triggered a conversation in Ahmedabad on the need to generate awareness on how to deal with relationship conflicts and support systems for victims of gender based violence.
