Firozabad Court Awards Death Sentence in 18-Month-Old Aarav Murder Case

The verdict came only 40 days after the crime, one of the fastest trials in a child murder case in the state.

Verdict to be delivered within 40 days
The Firozabad court on Wednesday found Viraj alias Jitendra Pathak guilty and sentenced him to death.

Their case was fast-tracked from the beginning. The police, the prosecution, and the judiciary acted expeditiously, and the judgement was delivered within 40 days of the incident being reported.

Legal experts have said the speed with which the trial has moved has been rare in serious criminal cases.

Rapid inquiry leads to conviction
The crime was reported, and the investigation started right away, officials said.

Evidence was recorded, witness statements were taken, and a charge sheet was filed without any delay. The trial then continued on a day-to-day basis with one hearing after the other.

Prosecutors said the evidence pointed directly at the defendant. The court listened to the arguments and found him guilty and gave him the maximum punishment.

Public reaction to the verdict is mixed
The ruling sparked a social media storm internationally. Many users welcomed the prompt action, terming it timely justice for crimes against children.

But others said the case highlights the need to expedite serious offences.

“The convicted person has the right to appeal against the verdict in higher courts as per the provisions under Indian law,” legal experts said.

A child safety case shows safety is a must
The toddler Aarav shooting has also sparked new fears about child safety and child protection.

Citizens and child rights groups have called on the authorities to step up preventive measures and ensure that investigations into crimes against minors are prioritised.

Now, the Firozabad case is being cited as an example of how coordinated action between police and courts can fast-track justice in heinous crimes.
