Expired Maggi, Thums Up Sold Online? Delhi Police Bust Massive Repackaging Racket
A big food fraud racket has been busted in Delhi, where expired food and beverage products were allegedly repackaged with fake expiry dates and sold to customers through e-commerce platforms. The operation raised serious questions about food safety and the online shopping experience.

Expired Products Given a New Life

According to the Delhi Police, the accused bought expired or nearly expired products at very low prices. These included popular brands such as Maggi, Thums Up, Fanta, Horlicks, Bournvita, Paper Boat, and several other food items.

The old manufacturing and expiry dates were reportedly removed using chemicals. The products were then repackaged with new labels showing fake manufacturing dates, expiry dates, batch numbers, and barcodes, making them look like fresh stock.

Products Sold Through Online Platforms

Police said the repackaged products were supplied to different parts of the country through e-commerce platforms and local markets. Customers had no way of knowing that the products they were buying had already expired.

Investigators believe the accused earned huge profits by selling these fake products at regular market prices. Authorities are also checking whether the network supplied products to other states and if more people were involved in the racket.

Police Uncover Illegal Setup in Raid

The fraud came to light after a raid by Delhi Police on a unit in Okhla Phase-II. Officials seized printing machines, sealing equipment, fake labels, and a large quantity of food items ready to be repackaged during the search.

Seven people have been arrested in connection with the case. Officials from the Food Safety Department also joined the investigation, and further action is underway to identify others linked to the operation.

Consumers Are Told to Stay Alert

People have been asked to check food products thoroughly, including packaging, expiry date, and condition, before buying, especially from online platforms. Consumers are also encouraged to report any suspect products to the appropriate authorities.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are trying to establish how long the racket had been in operation and how many fake products had already made their way to customers.
