Delhi Schoolgirl Dies After Falling From E-Rickshaw Near Majlis Park Metro Station

It’s a heartbreaking story that has rocked a community. Priyanshi (12) was killed in a tragic incident near the Majlis Park Metro Station in North-West Delhi on the morning of July 14, 2026.

The morning that changed it all

Priyanshi, a Class VI student, who had recently joined a new government school in Model Town, left her home in Rama Garden, Mukundpur, every day at 6.45 a.m. She was travelling with elder sister Sejal and other students in an e-rickshaw they regularly took. Her family remembers she said a happy "Radhe Radhe" as she left, not knowing it would be the last time they would see her.

The Accident.

Near the Majlis Park Metro Station, an e-rickshaw she was travelling in collided with a school bus at about 7:00 a.m. The impact was so severe that Priyanshi was thrown out of the rickshaw on to the road where she was unfortunately run over by the bus.

The sister and the other children in the rickshaw were not hurt physically but saw the horror of the accident.

The aftermath and public reaction

The family have been highly critical of the moments after the crash. Relatives said they were deeply anguished, saying precious time was lost because bystanders allegedly spent time recording video of the scene instead of rushing to help. Doctors told her uncle, Roshan Kumar, that she may have stood a chance had she reached the hospital at least 15 minutes earlier.

Law in action: Police have arrested 55-year-old bus driver Kamal Singh and seized the school bus and e-rickshaw. Adarsh Nagar police station registered a case of rash driving and death due to negligence.

Investigation underway: Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and examining the vehicles to determine whether the bus was being operated legally and whether appropriate safety permits were in place. Initial reports suggest the bus may have been operating as a school bus without the necessary authorisation.

This tragedy has reopened a painful conversation in the city about the safety of the daily commute for schoolchildren and the pressing need for more stringent oversight of the vehicles that take them to school every day.
