Delhi ACB Arrests Former CPA Head Dr Vinod Kumar Ranga in Alleged Procurement Corruption Case

Major Arrest in Delhi Healthcare System

The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Delhi government has arrested Dr Vinod Kumar Ranga, ex-head of the Central Procurement Agency (CPA). Dr Ranga, who was a senior official in the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), was arrested in connection with an ongoing probe into corruption in the supply of medicines and equipment to public hospitals.

Rigged Tenders and the Loss of Millions of Public Funds

“The probe is examining a deeply frustrating problem: rigging of government contracts to keep public hospitals supplied. The ACB has alleged that the procurement process was rigged in a systematic way in favour of a host of essential items that range from daily medicines, surgical tools, and basic hospital supplies to expensive medical machinery.

Investigators say officials deliberately bent or ignored rules to award lucrative contracts to certain private companies. The alleged favouritism shut out honest suppliers and cost taxpayers a fortune in inflated prices for public health supplies. The authorities have in this regard lodged formal charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act and criminal conspiracy under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The investigation has only just started

Looks like the arrest of Dr Ranga is the first domino to fall in a much larger crackdown. Investigators have spent months poring over mountains of paperwork, digital trails and old contract files to map out exactly who else was involved.

The ACB has made it clear they are actively investigating other health department officials, hospital administrators and the private companies that benefited from these backroom deals. Teams are still auditing files and collecting evidence, but officials have openly warned that more arrests are likely on the way as they work to clean up the city’s healthcare network.
