Ayesha Khan Briefly Detained During Mumbai Protest, Shares Emotional Account

Ayesha Khan says she posted several videos on Instagram and X after the incident. She seemed visibly emotional in the clips and said she joined the protest peacefully.

I was just standing on the road with the other protestors. ‘The police came and arrested me,’ she said in one of the videos. I don't understand why. We didn’t do anything violent or whatever.

She said the experience left her "shaken", but she wanted to speak out as students across the country are raising real concerns. Ayesha also thanked fans who reached out to her after watching the videos.

The posts went viral instantly, racking up thousands of likes and shares within hours.

Demonstration of NEET controversy
The agitation in Mumbai was one in a series of protests by students on issues related to the NEET exam. Students and activists have called for reforms in the medical entrance process and more transparency and accountability.

Protests have been reported in Delhi, Jaipur and other cities in the past week. In Mumbai, students, teachers and their supporters gathered, raised slogans and handed over a memorandum to the governor.

Ayesha Khan was in the crowd. Ms McGowan and eyewitnesses said things were peaceful until police asked the protesters to disperse. She said she was one of those who were briefly detained and then released.

Online debate sparked by videos
Within minutes, people were discussing on the internet the videos Ayesha shared. Concerned for her safety, fans took to social media to show their support with the hashtag #AyeshaKhan.

Netizens debated among themselves about the police action, asking if it was needed to arrest peaceful protesters. Others said there was a need to maintain law and order during demonstrations in busy parts of the city.

The clips were reposted by celebrity pages and news handles providing more attention to the actress and the NEET issue for which she was protesting.

A fan wrote: “Proud of you for standing with the students. Another said: “Hope you’re doing good. “This is not how you treat peaceful protest.”

Police have yet to release detailed report
The Mumbai Police has not yet issued any detailed public statement about the particular detention of Ayesha Khan. Authorities said they merely followed routine procedures during the protest to ensure traffic flow and public safety.

We wait to hear more about how many people have been detained, for how long and why.

The student groups that organised the protest said they would continue protesting until their demands are heard. They also thanked public personalities like Ayesha for raising the issue.

The incident has taken the national conversation on NEET to another level with the involvement of a public figure bringing more eyeballs to the students' demands.

Ayesha said she was safe for now and would continue to support the cause.
