Actor Rida Tharana’s Comment On Mumbai Food Sparks Delhi Vs Mumbai Debate

Rida Tharana, an influencer, said, “Mumbai food is the worst" in a clip from a podcast that started doing the rounds on social media this week. A food creator who posted the clip shared her opinion and used it to compare dishes from the two cities.

And that’s how the internet was back to discussing chole bhature vs vada pav.

What the viral post said

The food creator agreed with Rida’s comment, saying Delhi wins when it comes to variety and bold flavours.

The caption listed Delhi’s titans: chole bhature, golgappe, papdi chaat, dahi bhalla, bread pakoda, samosas and matar kulcha. It even snubbed Mumbai’s samosas, claiming that some are filled with peanuts, not potatoes.

The reel got thousands of likes, comments, and shares as people rushed to defend the food of their city. The internet is as divided as ever.

The reactions were right down the middle.

Many agreed with the creator, saying Delhi street food is richer, spicier, and has more options.

Others came out in support of Mumbai, saying that dishes like vada pav, pavbhaji, and misal pav have a unique identity and cannot be compared to Delhi's chaat.

Many users added the obvious, too: Taste is personal. “Every city has its own flavour. Why compare?” was a frequent comment.

The never-ending debate.

Delhi and Mumbai have feuded over food before and likely won’t be the last. Both Mumbai and Delhi have die-hard fans who swear by their local bites, from the late-night pav bhaji stalls in Mumbai to the old-school chaat corners in Delhi. The viral comment may have triggered yet another round of online sparring, but it also reminded people of one thing – India’s street food is too diverse to be ranked. It all depends on what you were raised on.

So, team Delhi or team Mumbai? The debate continues.
