Acid in Sealed Water Bottle? Hapur Woman Hospitalised After Drinking Suspicious Liquid

A shocking incident has taken place in the Arjun Nagar locality of Hapur in Uttar Pradesh, where a young woman has been admitted to the hospital in a critical condition after drinking what is being called a sealed bottle of packaged drinking water. The bottle was meant to have acid in it instead of water.

The victim Riya had gone to a local jewellery shop with her mother. They asked for water, and a shop assistant went to a shop next door to bring back a cold sealed bottle.

The Event Inside the Shop

Riya broke the seal and took a quick sip as the bottle was brought in.

Instantaneous Collapse: Within seconds of drinking the liquid, Riya began vomiting blood and was in agonising pain in the shop.

Market panic: A sudden medical emergency triggered a massive panic in the crowded market area. Local residents and family members immediately took her to a nearby hospital.

Condition Critical: Doctors administered her emergency first aid and rushed her to a higher medical centre in Meerut because of the extent of her internal injuries.

Police Start Inquiry

“We received information about the incident, and the Hapur Nagar Kotwali police reached the spot immediately.

Investigators are closely examining a CCTV video that has emerged showing the entire sequence of events inside the shop. “Though the family is busy with the treatment of Riya and we have not received any formal complaint from them, a preliminary inquiry is going on in full swing," said Hapur Nagar Kotwali Station House Officer Manish Chauhan.

“We are examining the CCTV footage and all possible evidence to find out how exactly a toxic substance was added inside a sealed bottle,” police officials said.

Investigators are now speaking with owners of the jewellery store and the store that sold the bottle, trying to trace the supply chain and find out if the contamination was due to fatal negligence or foul play. The problem has raised serious safety concerns among local residents about quality control and production of counterfeit packaged drinking water.
