PATNA: Bihar is going to host ‘Societe Generale Senior National Rugby Sevens Championship 2019’ and ‘3rd edition of National Wheelchair Rugby Championship 2019’ at Patliputra Sports Complex here in the state capital from July 19 to 21. The Indian Rugby Football Union (IRFU) aka Rugby India, the sole governing body for the sport of Rugby in India in association with Societe Generale, the financial partner of Rugby India and Rugby Football Association of Bihar are hosting the tournament.
With 24 states and affiliated units, including services set to participate, the event will be one of the largest national events that the state has hosted. The states participating are Haryana, Manipur, Punjab, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Jammu & Kashmir, Goa, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, West Bengal, Telangana, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Services (SSCB) and hosts Bihar.
The senior national tournament will serve as a selection platform for the upcoming Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy (Men and Women), which will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia on August 10 and 11.
Bihar plays hosts to Wheelchair Rugby Nationals event for the third successive year. The tournament will see participation from 10 state teams namely Punjab, Jharkhand, Odisha, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh and hosts Bihar.
