New Delhi, July 5 . According to data published by the World Bank’s Gini Index, India stands at 25.5, which makes it the fourth most equal country in the world. India is standing beside the Slovak Republic, Slovenia, and Belarus. It’s a great achievement for India, which shows its economic progress behind every class and section despite its large size and diverse traditions.
Moreover, India’s score in the Gini Index is far better than China’s 35.7 and the United States’ 41.8. The country falls in a “moderately low” inequality category as the Gini index of India is 25.5. Reportedly, India performed better than almost 167 countries, which is measured by the World Bank’s Gini Index.
India’s strong position in the Gini Index is due to the consistent efforts of the country towards poverty alleviation and improving equality in both urban and rural areas. The report also highlighted that almost 171 million Indians were removed from extreme poverty between the period of 2011-23.
The improved rankings are also pointed out to the different schemes of the government of India for improving financial access and delivering welfare services. Some of the most popular ones are Jan Dhan, DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer), and Ayushman Bharat.
