New Delhi, Dec 27 . Renowned singer Mohit Chauhan has released his new song ‘Meri Awaaz’, a touching ode to street dogs that carries a powerful message of compassion and coexistence with animals.

Speaking to . about the inspiration behind the song, Chauhan said, “When I first heard that the dogs were going to be removed and forced out, it really struck me, and it was painful to realise that this was actually going to happen. Then, when the order for their relocation came through, it became even more real.”

He added, “So I think it was really important for the message to go out, a message of compassion and love, especially from the animal side, from the stray dogs, as they were not part of the conversation. It’s humans debating and arguing about it. That’s when I composed the song, with lyrics by Prarthana. It was released on December 20, and the response has been overwhelming.”

Chauhan further said he has long been associated with organisations that care for animals and feels a responsibility to highlight the importance of coexistence with other living beings.

“I’ve been working with animals for many years now, feeding more than 400 street dogs regularly and taking care of their medical needs, including sterilisations, spaying, and neutering,” he said.

He also pointed out that he has rescued several animals who are now part of his family, an aspect reflected in the song as well. “The response to the song has been so beautiful. There are millions of people in this country who share the same values and thoughts that I have,” he added.

Chauhan said his work with animals, particularly street dogs, helped him express emotions through music. “That experience helped me convey the emotion which Prarthana gave me through her lyrics. She’s written very beautiful words, and I put a tune to them, that was it basically. It’s a simple song, but it carries a strong emotional quotient,” he said.

He further noted that, as an artist, he will continue to create music with a purpose. “My aim is to make purposeful, meaningful songs that can carry the voices of communities, of people, of life experiences, to the world,” he said.

Highlighting the social roots of music, Chauhan said, “Whether it’s folk, jazz, blues, whatever the genre, they all talk about life experiences. They all reflect what society is going through at that point in time. Rap music came from that too. I like music that’s rooted, honest, and sincere, and hopefully I’ll keep doing that.”

When asked if fans can expect more socially driven songs, Chauhan confirmed, “Definitely meaningful music. I’m working on some film music and some independent songs. Hopefully, I’ll be able to not only entertain people but also ensure my songs reflect my values. I’ll keep trying to do that.”

With ‘Meri Awaaz’, Mohit Chauhan has created not just a soulful melody but also a meaningful message, urging listeners to embrace compassion and coexistence with all living beings.

Through his music, Chauhan continues to use his platform to amplify voices that often go unheard, proving that art can inspire change while touching hearts. As he looks ahead, fans can expect more songs rooted in empathy, social consciousness, and the values he deeply believes in.
