Aosta Valley(Italy), July 18 . Italian cyclist Samuele Privitera has died following a crash while competing in the Giro della Valle d’Aosta.
The 19-year-old passed away yesterday after an accident during the first stage of the race in Pontey, in northwestern Italy.
According to reports, Privitera fell while descending, which caused his helmet to come off, and he struck his head on a gate.
Organizers cancelled Thursday’s stage of the race soon after the tragedy. The event is set to resume today.
Today’s stage will begin with a moment of silence in honor of the young cyclist.
The Giro della Valle d’Aosta is a five-stage race for under-23 riders. It began on Wednesday and is scheduled to conclude on Sunday.
