He can dream like Mungerilal: Smriti Irani takes a jibe at Rahul’s PM posters in Amethiadmin January 4, 2019 0 COMMENTS
The ‘Mungerilal’ reference comes from a 1989 Indian television series ‘Mungerilal Ke Haseen Sapne” where the title character, played by Raghubir Yadav, was a small time clerk who used to dream in order to escape the harsh realities of life.
Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani, during her visit to Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi on Friday (January 4) mocked Congress president Rahul Gandhi over posters in the region depicting him as the next prime minister.
When asked about the posters picturing Gandhi as the next PM, Irani said, Rahul Gandhi ko mahagathbandhan main is tarah ka aashirvaad na Mayawati se prapt hua hai, na Akhilesh se hua hai, na Mamata se hua hai, toh Mungerilal ke sapne dekhne hain toh kisne mana kiya hai. [Rahul Gandhi has not got this kind of blessing by Mayawati, Akhilesh and Mamata. No one has stopped him to dream like Mungerilal], she said.

Irani was in Amethi earlier in the day to speak to party workers ahead of the general elections later this year. Among other things, Irani also criticised Gandhi for staying silent on Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath’s recent comment on people from UP and Bihar.
“Lot of industries set up where people from other states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are employed. I do not want to criticise them, but the young people of Madhya Pradesh are not benefiting, Nath had said.
Why was Rahul Gandhi silent when Madhya Pradesh CM spoke against UP and Bihar migrants? How will he see eye to eye with people of Amethi today?” Irani questioned Gandhi.
Irani also blamed the Congress for creating hurdles in the judicial process in the Ram Temple case through its lawyers, adding that Ram bhakts’ should ask the party about it. She was referring to senior Congress leader and lawyer Kapil Sibal representing one of the litigants in the Ram temple suit.
Meanwhile, Gandhi had rescheduled his visit on Thursday night. He was expected to arrive in Lucknow at 10 am on Friday but later changed the timing and will be landing in Fursatganj airstrip in the evening.
On a lighter note, when asked whether Gandhi was afraid of her, Irani said, He is coming on a chartered flight without any fear.
