PATNA: In what can be called shocking incident, reports of some primary healthcare centres (PHCs) in Vaishali districts demanding money from patients in lieu of surgery conducted on them have come to light. The doctors under the banner of Jan Swasthya Kalyan Samiti, Patna (JSKSP) have decided to organize a Raj Bhawan march in the state capital on June 20 demanding strict and quick actions against those found guilty in the related case. The march would start from Kargil roundabout at 12 noon.
Jan Swasthya Kalyan Samiti, Patna (JSKSP) secretary Dr LB Singh has alleged that the civil surgeon (CS) of Vaishali, in connivance with in-charges of PHCs, was accepting money from patients who were coming there for surgeries for their ailment. Singh also claimed that after he brought the matter in the public domain, he was being harassed and false cases of demanding extortion had been slapped on him.
“When I brought the matter to light and took it (with sufficient proof) to the door of the civil surgeon of Vaishali Dr Indradev Ranjan, he was not ready to listen to me and instead, he, along with others who were also involved in the wrongdoings, slapped four extortion cases in just two months against me for which they could not provide even a single proof till date,” said Singh.
He further said that JSKSP had already informed the offices of governor, chief minister, director general of police and district magistrate of Vaishali on May 14 itself regarding all the developments taking place in the district under the nose of civil surgeon. “We even recommend a CBI inquiry into the matter so that the truth can be brought to the fore and guilty could be punished,” said Singh.
